Jazz, A Louisiana Kitchen (Omaha) 1421 Farnam St Omaha, NE68102 Wednesday, Nov 23, 2016 Hello, Jazz! Goodbye, Jazz! JordanDirgo We had three quizzes at once at Jazz last night. It was my first, last, and only quiz there. I have to say, I thought the venue was pretty nice. The teams that were there were fairly into the quiz. I wonder why it didn't take off? The world may never know. It was also a fairly predictable affair, with Orjazzmo taking the victory in convincing fashion. Runners-up Orjazzno were never really in play, sorry to say. After round 2, it was all but over. Favorite Team Name: They Said 'omw', after I called out the one man team. His bros and bro-ettes did eventually show up. Favorite I thought I already wrote this stupid thing! Accursed internet! Anywho, there's not much to say. I'm a complete trivia pub quiz nerd, but I don't have any pub quiz nerd friends, so being on the other side of things was a natural move for me. I also have decent public speaking experience from being on my high school debate team, so if you need a witty retort or some thick-as-molasses sarcasm, I'm your man. I'm in school for engineering at the moment, so my schedule is pretty open at night. I mainly stay at Wilson and Washburn, but I'll probably pop up in other locations around the Omaha/Lincoln area.

Jazz, A Louisiana Kitchen (Omaha) 1421 Farnam St Omaha, NE68102 Wednesday, Oct 05, 2016 You Da Real Phlegm-V.P. Rapturous Verbatim Some nights I stay up cashing in my bad luck. Some nights I call it a draw. Some nights I wish that my lips didn’t emit sounds akin to that of a 20-year chain smoker because of a wicked cold I caught somewhere between Paris and Omaha. Some nights I develop a sudden and inexplicable tarsal pain that makes me walk like Keyser Söze and has me wishing my foot would just fall off. But I still wake up, I still drive to Jazz and do my quiz! But oh Lord, I’m still not sure what I stood for. What did I stand for? What did I stand for? Most nights, I know, but last night? Seriously, my foot was in agony, and there was a I'm the one who gets away. I'm a New Jersey success story. And they'll say, "Lord, give me the chance to shake that hand."

Jazz, A Louisiana Kitchen (Omaha) 1421 Farnam St Omaha, NE68102 Wednesday, Oct 12, 2016 Never Mind the F-Bombs, Here's the Pub Quiz Rapturous Verbatim We were a little out of sorts last week. Physically, your Quizmaster wasn’t at 100%, and the quiz’s level of difficulty took nearly every team by surprise. But much like we triumphed last week despite it all, we were confident we would come back strong this week, and come back strong we did! The return of one of our regular teams, Jazz Hands, was the first sign that we were on the right track. They put in a superb comeback performance, taking down third place with aplomb. Slick Willy too delivered the goods, showing the new quizzers the proper repeated-question-request technique in such a I'm the one who gets away. I'm a New Jersey success story. And they'll say, "Lord, give me the chance to shake that hand."

Jazz, A Louisiana Kitchen (Omaha) 1421 Farnam St Omaha, NE68102 Wednesday, Nov 16, 2016 So Long, and Thanks for All the Turkey Rapturous Verbatim Something about last night's quiz made me feel a bit nostalgic. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I imagine a big part of it is that I will be out of town for next week's quiz, and that's the last one before Thanksgiving. (Thanks for covering me, Jordan!) And let's be honest: my grateful meter is pretty well off the charts. So allow me this indulgence and, a week in advance of Turkey Day, let me wax rhapsodic (nay sentimental) about the things your humble QM is thankful for. I'm the one who gets away. I'm a New Jersey success story. And they'll say, "Lord, give me the chance to shake that hand."

Jazz, A Louisiana Kitchen (Omaha) 1421 Farnam St Omaha, NE68102 Wednesday, Sep 14, 2016 Here We Are Juggernaut Rapturous Verbatim In case it hasn’t been clear from past posts, one of my regular teams, OrJazzmo, is a force to be reckoned with. (And, Wu-Tang-like, is also not to…be trifled…with.) Last night, despite a relatively small turnout, they managed to put in one of the finest performances I’ve seen to date. They missed more points in R8 than they did in the entire rest of the quiz combined, including a perfect first 4 rounds, complete with a superbly timed Joker in R2. Ladies and gentlemen, that’s how you play the game. They are, quite simply, a juggernaut. But I'm the one who gets away. I'm a New Jersey success story. And they'll say, "Lord, give me the chance to shake that hand."

Jazz, A Louisiana Kitchen (Omaha) 1421 Farnam St Omaha, NE68102 Wednesday, Sep 07, 2016 When You Wish Upon a Bar Rapturous Verbatim After a whirlwind weekend in Disneyland, I was super excited to come back and see my quizzers once again! I was in a particularly pleasant mood, since I had just gotten engaged that weekend at the Happiest Place on Earth, and quiz is one of the few places that I could where my Rapunzel and Flynn “Just engaged!” button, Dumbo Double Dare finisher medal, and groom Mickey ears without being judged (more harshly than usual). All of our teams clearly responded well to the pressure. Despite a couple early departures—and one late arrival, A Bee Seas, I'm the one who gets away. I'm a New Jersey success story. And they'll say, "Lord, give me the chance to shake that hand."

Jazz, A Louisiana Kitchen (Omaha) 1421 Farnam St Omaha, NE68102 Wednesday, Aug 31, 2016 The Happiest Quiz on Earth Rapturous Verbatim I love my quizzers, and I love performing my quiz every week. But even those of the strongest constitutions have their weaknesses. For me, my two biggest pieces of Kryptonite are vacations and Disney. And it just so happens that I leave in 36 hours for a long weekend in Disneyland. So yeah, perhaps it was a little tougher than usual to focus on this week’s quiz. It also didn’t help that R1Q1 directly referenced one of my favorite Disney movies. Go on, quiz…just twist that knife deeper, why don’t you? But we pressed on. And like Arabian nights and Arabian days, OrJazzmo were I'm the one who gets away. I'm a New Jersey success story. And they'll say, "Lord, give me the chance to shake that hand."

Jazz, A Louisiana Kitchen (Omaha) 1421 Farnam St Omaha, NE68102 Wednesday, Aug 24, 2016 Chevy Chase Is Judging You Harshly Rapturous Verbatim I don’t mean to brag (okay, maybe I do), but my quizzers are a damn smart crew. After ten weeks of hosting this quiz, I’ve only ever seen a question totally stump every team twice. But this week was a new benchmark. This week, I had a question that not only did everyone get wrong, but they all got it wrong in exactly the same way. Every single team saw Clark and Ellen Griswold and figured it was National Lampoon’s Vacation, but no one noticed Clark’s sweater or remembered the asshole redneck truck drivers he was flipping off. The collective “aww!” that arose when I'm the one who gets away. I'm a New Jersey success story. And they'll say, "Lord, give me the chance to shake that hand."

Jazz, A Louisiana Kitchen (Omaha) 1421 Farnam St Omaha, NE68102 Wednesday, Aug 17, 2016 Was It Something I Said? Rapturous Verbatim Far be it from I to toot my own horn, but I feel like I’m a pretty warm, welcoming guy. (It would be really hard to be an effective Quizmaster if I wasn’t!) Despite that, though, I was apparently responsible for driving not one but two parties out of my venue last night. And all because I was just trying to do the right thing! The first such group was our 4th place finishers, Razorbacks. I felt like things were going well: they were staying really competitive in a quiz whose first half was super close, and they genuinely looked like they were having a good time. Then, I'm the one who gets away. I'm a New Jersey success story. And they'll say, "Lord, give me the chance to shake that hand."

Jazz, A Louisiana Kitchen (Omaha) 1421 Farnam St Omaha, NE68102 Wednesday, Aug 10, 2016 Fapping on Farnam Rapturous Verbatim A good Quizmaster should, above all else, love his quizzers. While I would never be so cocky as to call myself good, I do indeed love my teams, whether regular or new! And when you love your quizzers, you give the people what they want. And what they wanted last night was sexy Dave time. R6 last night was fully loaded with so much ham, I thought I may have been at Easter dinner. And when you’ve got to read erotically charged TV show fanfic, you can either be meek and subtle, or you can go all-out balls-out. In other words, there was never really a choice. So I pulled out my finest baritone and gave the people what they wanted. And by the end of the round, I'm the one who gets away. I'm a New Jersey success story. And they'll say, "Lord, give me the chance to shake that hand."
